The first edition of the “International Winter School,” organized by the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management at the Romanian-American University was launched in the presence of both Romanian and international students from various countries. The winter school courses will take place from January 25 to February 3, 2024.
At the opening of the event, Camelia Gheorghe, Phd.Univ. Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, provided students with an overview of the Faculty under whose auspices the international winter school is being held. This was followed by a presentation on Romania and its major cities of interest for visitation, delivered by Cristina Stoenescu, PhD.Univ. Assistant. Students from multiple countries, including Croatia, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania, expressed their enthusiasm for participating in such a unique opportunity. In their view, this initiative allows them to learn about the tourism industry, experience new cultures, travel, engage in various activities, and, last but not least, make new friends.
The international winter school initiative by the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management has also piqued the interest of other universities in Bucharest and across the country. Guests from other universities, such as the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest and Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, were present at the opening event.
At the end of the launch event, students enjoyed a guided tour of the campus, discovering various facilities offered by the Romanian-American University.
The official program of the winter school includes:
- One week of courses and practical activities in Bucharest in the field of tourism and hospitality, delivered by professors from Portugal, France, and Romania, as well as CEOs of tourism and hospitality companies. Additionally, students will participate in cultural activities, visiting the Palace of the Parliament, Peleș Castle and Bran Castle.
- Three days in the mountains, in Predeal, where work visits, hikes, winter games, and other extracurricular activities are organized.
- Officially, the winter school closes in Bucharest on February 3, followed by two final online sessions: the first on February 9, where students will present their projects resulting from participating in the international winter school, and the second a concluding session on February 10.
Our university is thrilled to be the initiator of such a large-scale international event, which can serve as a model for other universities in the country.
