Emerging Disruptive Technologies and International Security
The Romanian-American University, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, orchestrated the captivating event „Emerging Disruptive Technologies and International Security,” drawing in a diverse array of students from various disciplines and esteemed faculty members.
Setting the stage, Mr. Costel Negricea, Ph.D. Habil. Professor and Rector of the Romanian-American University, inaugurated the proceedings. Mr. Negricea introduced our esteemed keynote speaker, Mr. Kap-soo Rim, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Romania since March 2022. With a career in Korean diplomacy dating back to 1995, Mr. Kap-soo Rim brought invaluable insights to the discourse.
The day’s discussions delved deep into pressing issues such as cyber terrorism, the advent of emerging technologies, robotics, and AI. Amidst this backdrop, South Korea and Romania emerged as strategic partners, united by a shared commitment to combatting new threats in the realms of cybersecurity and technological advancement.
Highlighting the significance of shared values in combating contemporary challenges, Ambassador Kap-soo Rim underscored the growing importance of alliances in countering disinformation, particularly in the context of elections marred by the proliferation of „fake new.” Stressing the need for cohesive regulatory frameworks, he emphasized, „We are facing the same threats and we have to have the same regulations when it comes to the use of AI. If we want to regulate the wrong use of AI, we have to have the same standards and regulations for all.”
“States that work together and share the same values are expected to unite and fight against new emerging threats’” concluded our special guest speaker.
The audience, comprising both students and faculty members, found themselves fascinated by the captivating discussions, punctuated by thought-provoking inquiries and lively exchanges.
